The story of inTune…

My musical journey started on the recorder and as I was apparently unusually good at it, my school teacher rung my parents and suggested they got me piano lessons. How lucky I was that someone noticed, and my parents hopped on board with the idea.

Music became a huge part of my life, also taking up the clarinet. I played in various ensembles and was forever getting tasked with accompanying people. After A levels, a degree and a year travelling, I moved to Australia and trained as a music teacher. During those 10 years I met my husband, had our son and taught in a high school. But, in 2013 we decided it was time to come home and we ended up back in my home town of Wadebridge.

Moving countries, even when coming home, is not easy and there was an element of ‘oh heck, what are we going to do now?’ I knew I didn’t want to go back into the classroom and that I wanted to focus on the element of my job I had been best at - being at the piano whilst singing and directing school productions and choirs. So from that, inTune Choir was born and I started it in September 2013. Due to my history there was no question that I would be behind the piano and 13 years later I am still dragging a piano around with me!

I feel so blessed to be at the helm of this incredible community of women, many of whom have become fantastic friends and even mentors. It is forever changing, people come, people go as is the circle of life. But at its core, the choir always remains the same. Founding members and brand new members come together and bond over singing. They share fantastic experiences and achieve goals together. 13 years in, I honestly hope it never changes.

My Mum sings in the choir and you will often see my husband James and also my teenage son Evan helping me at gigs as he is secretly proud of his mum and enjoys listening to the choir! He even approves of some of our song choices.

I am so grateful and oh so lucky. Let’s hope we can keep inTune going for many more years yet. This relies on new members coming in so do not hesitate - there is definitely room in our community for you.
